Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of WokWise, including our website, app, AI recommendation features, recipe pages, Kitchen Profile, saved recipes, ratings, reviews, shopping lists, and related services.

By using WokWise, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use WokWise.

1. What WokWise Provides

WokWise helps home cooks discover real Chinese recipes and adapt them to their own kitchen. WokWise may provide:

  • Chinese recipe pages;
  • AI-powered recipe recommendations;
  • Ingredient explanations;
  • Ingredient substitutions;
  • Shopping lists;
  • Kitchen Profile features;
  • Saved recipes;
  • Recipe ratings and reviews;
  • Cooking tips and cultural context.

WokWise provides cooking information and recipe suggestions only. We do not provide medical, nutritional, allergy, or professional dietary advice.

2. Accounts

Some features may require an account. You agree to provide accurate account information and keep your login credentials secure.

You are responsible for all activity under your account. If you believe your account has been accessed without authorization, contact us immediately.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or misuse WokWise.

3. Kitchen Profile and Personalization

You may provide information such as cookware, country or region, spice tolerance, dietary preferences, allergies, pantry items, and ingredients you avoid.

WokWise uses this information to personalize recipe recommendations. You are responsible for keeping your Kitchen Profile accurate and up to date.

WokWise cannot guarantee that every recommendation will be suitable for your personal needs. Always review ingredients and product labels before cooking or eating.

4. AI Recommendations

WokWise may use AI to generate recipe suggestions, substitutions, shopping lists, explanations, and cooking guidance.

AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your situation. You should use your own judgment and verify important information before relying on AI recommendations.

You should not use WokWise to make medical, health, allergy, or safety decisions without consulting a qualified professional.

5. Allergies, Dietary Restrictions, and Food Safety

If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, you must carefully check all ingredients, packaging labels, restaurant or grocery information, and substitutions before cooking or eating.

WokWise may help identify possible allergens or ingredients to avoid based on information you provide, but we do not guarantee that recipes, substitutions, or recommendations are free from allergens or cross-contamination risks.

Cooking involves risks, including burns, cuts, foodborne illness, choking, smoke, fire, and improper use of appliances or cookware. You are responsible for following safe food handling and cooking practices.

6. Recipe Ratings, Reviews, and User Content

You may be able to submit ratings, reviews, comments, prompts, feedback, or other content (“User Content”).

You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting User Content to WokWise, you grant WokWise a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, host, store, reproduce, display, modify, publish, translate, and distribute that content to operate, improve, and promote WokWise.

You agree not to submit User Content that:

  • Is illegal, harmful, abusive, hateful, misleading, or defamatory;
  • Infringes someone else’s intellectual property or privacy rights;
  • Contains spam, malware, advertising, or irrelevant promotional content;
  • Contains private information about another person without permission;
  • Misrepresents your experience with a recipe or product.

We may remove or moderate User Content at our discretion.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use WokWise for unlawful, harmful, or abusive purposes;
  • Attempt to access accounts, systems, or data without authorization;
  • Scrape, copy, or bulk download WokWise content without permission;
  • Reverse engineer, attack, overload, or interfere with WokWise;
  • Use automated systems to abuse AI features or generate excessive requests;
  • Bypass payment, subscription, rate limits, or security controls;
  • Misuse WokWise to create unsafe cooking instructions or misleading food information;
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organization.

8. Intellectual Property

WokWise, including our website, app, design, branding, software, recipes, ingredient guides, recommendation logic, text, graphics, and other content, is owned by WokWise or our licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You may use WokWise for personal, non-commercial cooking and learning purposes. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, sell, publish, or create competing datasets from WokWise content without our written permission.

You may share recipe links through normal sharing features.

9. Third-Party Links and Services

WokWise may link to third-party websites, grocery stores, products, videos, payment processors, login providers, or other services.

We are not responsible for third-party websites, products, services, content, availability, accuracy, privacy practices, or transactions. Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and policies.

10. Paid Features

WokWise may offer free and paid features. Paid features may include advanced AI recommendations, pantry-based personalization, premium substitutions, cooking mode, meal planning, or other features.

If you purchase a paid feature or subscription, the price, billing cycle, renewal terms, cancellation method, and refund rules will be shown at the time of purchase.

Payments may be processed by third-party platforms such as Apple, Google, Stripe, Paddle, or other payment providers. Their payment terms may also apply.

Unless required by law or stated otherwise at the time of purchase, fees are non-refundable.

11. Changes to WokWise

We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We may also update recipes, remove recipes, change recommendation logic, or limit access to certain features.

We are not liable for changes, interruptions, or discontinuation of any part of WokWise.

12. Disclaimers

WokWise is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, non-infringement, and availability.

We do not guarantee that:

  • WokWise will always be available or error-free;
  • Recipes or AI recommendations will be accurate or suitable for you;
  • Ingredient substitutions will produce the same taste, texture, or result;
  • Recommendations will meet allergy, dietary, health, or safety requirements;
  • User ratings or reviews are accurate or representative.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, WokWise and its owners, employees, contractors, affiliates, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business opportunities.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to WokWise will not exceed the amount you paid to WokWise in the twelve months before the claim, or USD $100 if you have not paid WokWise.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some limitations may not apply to you.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless WokWise and its owners, employees, contractors, affiliates, and service providers from claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses arising from:

  • Your use of WokWise;
  • Your violation of these Terms;
  • Your User Content;
  • Your violation of another person’s rights;
  • Your misuse of recipes, AI recommendations, or cooking information.

15. Termination

You may stop using WokWise at any time.

We may suspend or terminate your access if we believe you violated these Terms, created risk for WokWise or other users, or used the service unlawfully or abusively.

After termination, provisions that by their nature should survive will continue to apply, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and dispute terms.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles.

You agree that disputes will be resolved in the courts located in Santa Clara County, California, unless applicable consumer protection laws require otherwise.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and may provide additional notice.

Your continued use of WokWise after changes become effective means you accept the updated Terms.
